LAFC vs Seattle Sounders FC Highlights
In a 1-1 draw, the LAFC vs Seattle Sounders FC showdown on Saturday was a fight till the end where Cristian Arango equalized the match in the 79th minute at Lumen Field. While earning a point on the road, the Black and Gold were able to secure the best record in the MLS with a league-leading 30 points.
After a scoreless first half, the Seattle Sounders FC were able to collect their first goal of the match following midfielder Albert Rusnak’s goal in the 58th minute. LAFC goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau seemed to miscommunite with midfielder Ilie Sanchez on the clearance toss back which allowed Rusnak to rush in for an open look at the back of the net to give his team the 1-0 lead. This was Rusnak’s first goal since joining the Sounders back in January.
LAFC had an opportunity just 5 minutes later on a look where Latif Blessing found Ryan Hollingshead who shot right into the chest of Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei. The ball ricocheted toward Chicho but he shot directly into the arms of Frei, who finished the match with six saves on seven shots against. That’s right, Arango got his revenge shortly after.
Leading the team with four shots, Arango was able to connect his fourth goal of the season in the 79’ thanks to a double header play with newly signed Danny Trejo on a header pass toward Chicho who scored on a rainbow header toward the far post to equalize the match 1-1.
Both teams were able to attempt a few more looks but to no success. Throughout the match, LAFC had a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal despite the Sounders having a 13-11 advantage in total shots. Crepeau saved a couple more in stoppage time and finished the match with four saves on five shot attempts.
Leading the Western Conference and the rest of the league, the LAFC are looking stronger than ever and will face the New York Red Bulls back at Banc of California Stadium on Sunday, June 28. NYRB are currently second place in the Eastern Conference.
