LAFC vs New York Red Bulls Highlights

After a goalless first half of the LAFC vs New York Red Bulls match at Banc of California Stadium, Cristian “Chicho” Arango was able to clutch up for Los Angeles in the 67th minute. Chicho scored his fifth goal of the 2022 season and his third in as many games to help carry LAFC to a 2-0 home victory over the depleted New York Red Bulls on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Red Bulls, under Austrian coach Gerhard Struber, entered this game defeating New York City 3-0 in the US Open Cup Quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. It wasn’t intentional, but LAFC began to spoil NYRB’s LA visit during the second half when Carlos Vela found Chicho on an open look and scored through NYRB goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. In all fairness, NYRB were without Aaron Long, Jason Pendant, and Luquinhas due to Health and Safety procedures prior to the match.

LAFC defender Diego Palacios also scored his first goal of the season during the 70th minute of the match after Brian Rodriguez drew in two defenders and created space for DP to score and bring the lead to 2-0. LAFC goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau recorded his fifth clean sheet of the year with four stops.

LAFC extended their undefeated streak to four games and are expected to only get better after the acquisitions of Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini from Europe once the secondary transfer window opens in July. Sealing all three points, LAFC continue to hold the top of the Western Conference and the MLS in standings with 33 points.

The Black and Gold will stay at home for their next matchup on Wednesday, June 29 against FC Dallas.
