LAFC vs Seattle Sounders Highlights – MLS is Back Tournament
LAFC eliminated the Seattle Sounders from the MLS is Back Tournament in the Round of 16 on Monday night, and they vanquished some demons in the process.
Jumping out to an early lead for once, LAFC took control of the game and never relinquished. Stepping into the superstar role temporarily vacated by Carlos Vela, Diego Rossi created multiple early chances, finally putting one away after drawing a penalty in the 14′ minute. Blessing then doubled their lead with a right-footed curler that took a nasty deflection off Seattle’s Shane O’Neill to throw Stefan Frei off the scent.
The second half saw more of the same for the Black & Gold, who have brilliantly utilized their youth and speed on defense with a frantic swarming press. Seattle made some timely subs to bring on fresh legs and temporarily asserted themselves through a Joevin Jones to Will Bruin connection. Bruin scored with his first touch in the 75th minute and nearly bagged a second, but Seattle largely struggled to sort out LAFC’s high defensive blitz.
In what might have been, Diego Rossi will be kicking himself for not finishing this game with another four goals like he had last time out, but he did finally get a much deserved second in 82nd minute after capitalizing on a terrible defensive error by Seattle. Brian Rodriguez then sealed things a few minutes later after, well, a terrible defensive error by Seattle.
LAFC now advance to the quarterfinals of the MLS is Back Tournament. They face Orlando City FC on Friday, July 31 at 4:30pm PST.
