LAFC Signs Forward Danny Trejo on short term loan

Announced today, LAFC signs forward Danny Trejo from the USL’s Las Vegas Lights FC on a short term loan agreement. The short-term agreement, which is governed by MLS regulations, permits teams to sign players on loan from their affiliate for MLS, US Open Cup, Canadian Championship, CONCACAF Champions League, and exhibition matches.

The 24-year-old was LAFC’s first-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. Despite the fact that he was never signed to an MLS contract by LAFC, he has stayed in the club’s system as a member of the Las Vegas Lights FC. Injuries limited Trejo’s rookie campaign in the USL Championship but has played very well this 2022 season recording seven goals in 13 appearances, which is tied for third in the league in scoring.

Trejo is also the leading scorer in the USL and leads the Las Vegas Lights FC in assists. It’s no surprise that he was named USL Team of the Week five times now. As LAFC signs forward Danny Trejo, there is already some familiarity as Steve Cherundolo coached Trejo in 2021.

As a Mendota, California-native, Trejo played in college at Cal State University Northridge and recorded 26 goals and 15 assists in 58 appearances from 2018 through 2019. In 2019, Trejo was named the 2019 Big West Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and Second Team All-Region in 2019.
