LAFC acquires forward David Martínez from Monagas SC
Announced today, LAFC acquires forward David Martínez from Venezuelan club Monagas SC. Martinez has agreed to a deal that will begin on February 7 and go until 2027 with a 2028 team option. As part of Major League Soccer’s U22 Initiative, Martínez joins LAFC and, subject to the issuance of his P1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC), will occupy an international roster place.

I would like to thank our scout Pipe Altamar for his great work as well as Nicolas Fernandez from Monagas for their critical roles in the process of signing David.”
For the previous two years, The El Tigre, Venezuela native was a member of Venezuela’s First Division team, Monagas SC. On February 22, 2022, the then 16-year-old Martínez made his senior debut for Monagas against CD Everton in the Copa Libertadores. With 38 appearances, 24 starts, and six goals and five assists across all competitions, the forward rapidly established himself as a standout performer for Monagas.
On June 16, 2023 in a friendly match against Guatemala, Martínez made his debut for Venezuela’s Senior National Team at the age of 17. Martínez has represented Venezuela in both U-17 and U-20 competitions. At the 2023 U-20 South American Championship, he made his U-20 debut for Venezuela against Bolivia at the age of 16. Martínez has recorded 21 combined appearances across all competitions for Venezuela’s U-17 and U-20 teams.
