LAFC vs LA Galaxy – April 6, 2024

The LAFC vs LA Galaxy Saturday night showdown was the very first episode of El Tráfico this 2024 MLS season and continued the Black and Gold’s winning streak at home against the hometown rivals. With the 2-1 victory, LAFC is now 4-1-3 all-time against the Galaxy during the MLS regular season.

LAFC midfielder Timothy Tillman wasted no time and drew first blood to put the home team in the lead. Just under the 4 minute mark, Ilie Sánchez was on the receiving end of a corner kick by Mateusz Bogusz. Sánchez  flicked toward the goal where Tillman was able to adjust and easily tap in the ball to put LAFC up 1-0.

“His characteristics and behaviors on the field have translated into a very good player for our league, so we’re very happy with him, his progression, and again, the performance tonight,” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo. “He’s been through this season, maybe our most consistent performer.”

LA Galaxy were able to equalize the match in the 29th minute due to an embarrassing play that allowed Julian Aude to attempt three shots. After being ricocheted, his third was able to find the back of the net to tie the game. Luckily Bouanga put his team back in the lead before halftime on a PK following getting tripped up. With a right footed strike, Bouanga landed one past Galaxy (and former LAFC) goalkeeper John McCarthy.

LAFC’s defense was superior after the break, only allowing LA Galaxy to one shot on target while LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris blocked six shots in the last 20 minutes of game time. The Black and Gold sealed the 2-1 victory as the clock ticked down.

Traveling to the Pacific Northwest, LAFC will face off against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, April 13.
