LAFC vs Colorado Rapids – March 30, 2024

Suffering a 3-2 loss at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in the LAFC vs Colorado Rapids matchup on Saturday afternoon, LAFC are now 2-3-1 with seven points. Up a goal, LAFC couldn’t hold onto the lead as Colorado’s Djordje Mihailovic clutched for his squad with two goals in a span of only 10 minutes to finish the match.

LAFC’s Eduardo Atuesta put his club on the board early on in the 8th minute of the match when he dribbled around Colorado’s Kevin Cabral and took a right footed shot to the far post and right through the hands of Rapids goalkeeper Zach Steffen. Atuesta now has two goals this season and is one shy from tying his MLS career high of three goals.

The Rapids were able to equalize the match in the 38’ after an outstanding header by Moise Bombito who perfectly followed up a corner kick. After the break, LAFC’s David Martinez went past two Rapids defenders and shot a left footed strike through three more to put LAFC up 2-1 in the 78’. The goal was 18-year-old Martinez’ first for the Black and Gold, and he now becomes the club’s second youngest player to score in a regular season game.

Unfortunately the lead did not last long as Mihailovic scored on a free kick just seven minutes later. Martinez was called for his second yellow card of the game, which reduced LAFC to 10 men. Mihailovic took full advantage of the situation and scored in the 89th minute past LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to give Colorado a 3-2 lead and the victory.

LAFC will return to BMO Stadium to host the LA Galaxy in the first episode of El Tráfico of the 2024 MLS season on Saturday, April 6.
