LAFC vs Portland Timbers – April 13, 2024

The LAFC vs Portland Timbers match on Saturday ended in a 2-2 draw as Mateusz Bogusz’ brace was not enough to put The Timbers to rest at home in Providence Park. LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo once again started the same starting eleven for the fourth game in a row.

The Timbers were the first on the scoreboard as Felipe Mora slid one past LAFC’s Hugo Lloris to put his team up 1-0. Bogusz followed up ten minutes later with his first equalizer of the match as he finished one off the far post to tie the game. Portland was not yet done before the break and took the lead in the 34th minute due to Evander’s strike over Lloris. The assist was credited to his teammate Juan Mosquera.

Following the halftime break, it was Bogusz’ turn to answer back, and he sure did on a free kick that went over the wall and under the crossbar. Former LAFC goalkeeper (and current Timbers GK) Maxime Crépeau was red carded for getting tangled up with LAFC winger Denis Bouanga outside the box. Crépeau recorded one shot for Portland before his exit.

James Pantemis replaced Crépeau and Bogusz then drilled one to the back of the net to tie the game 2-2. The 22 year old now has three goals this season, tying his rookie season high from last year.

Even though LAFC had one man over the Timbers, they couldn’t capitalize on the situation even with multiple looks at goal. With the draw, LAFC are now 3-3-2 with 11 points, and will play against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, April 20.
