LAFC vs New York Red Bulls – April 20, 2024
On Saturday, Denis Bouanga clutched and secured an outstanding brace in the second half to tie the 2-2 LAFC vs New York Red Bulls match at BMO Stadium. In a nail biter throughout the night, LAFC were finally able to equalize in the last moments of the game in stoppage when the 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner found the back of the net on a jaw-dropping 12-yard strike.
Just 8 minutes into the game, LAFC center back Aaron Long had to leave the game following an injury when he made an incredible defensive play blocking Red Bulls’ Dante Vanzeir, but unfortunately Long crashed into the goalpost shin-first. Eddie Segura replaced Long, but after a New York corner kick, Sean Nealis was able to put his team on the board with a successful header.
It took a while for LAFC to equalize the match, but better late than never as the Black and Gold tied the game when Bouanga scored in the 67th minute after drawing a penalty kick on Nealis. New York answered back shortly after another corner kick that ricocheted directly to Emil Forsberg for a right footed strike to put NYRB up 2-1.
As time ticked down in the second half stoppage, it was no other than the Frenchman’s time to shine as he responded with a shot from the corner of the penalty area and through NYRB goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. The assist was credited to Sergi Palencia. LAFC is now 3-3-3 for 12 points and currently stand in 9th place in the Western Conference. New York on the other hand have remained undefeated in their last five matches and hold a 4-1-4 record with 16 points.
LAFC will be hosting the Portland Timbers for an early season rematch next Saturday, April 27.
