LAFC vs LA Galaxy – September 16, 2023
The Black and Gold are back on the winning side of things as they came out with a stunning 4-2 victory in the LAFC vs LA Galaxy rivalry game on Saturday. BMO Stadium was packed with 22,132 in attendance, and boy were they in for a treat as Denis Bouanga scored a brace in the winning effort.
Bouanga kicked things off right as the clock struck the 23rd minute. The LAFC offense drove down the field fast in their possession, with Diego Palacios taking charge and finding Bouanga on a beautiful cross that led to a snappy, header goal by DB. Cue the signature front flip by #99.
Only minutes following LAFC’s lighting strike, LA Galaxy answered back immediately as Billy Sharp took a dance in the penalty box and shot one past LAFC goalkeeper John McCarthy. The Black and Gold weren’t finished for the half as Ryan Hollingshead added a score in the 33rd minute right down the middle through Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathon Bond.
The LA Galaxy were able to equalize the match early in the second half when Diego Fagundez crossed to Tyler Boyd who passed to Maya Yoshida for a header. Bouanga’s brace occurred in the 75th minute when he saw a brief mispositioning on Bond’s end and capitalized with a clear shot to the far post. The French winger is now tied for the MLS lead in goals next to Atlanta’s Giorgos Giakoumakis and Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar.
LAFC’s Timothy Tillman put the final nail in the coffin about ten minutes after to bring the lead to 4-2, scoring his first goal since March 25. Tillman is now tied for fourth in regular season goals aside Stupe Biuk and Mateusz Bogusz.
Bring themselves up to second place in the Western Conference, the Black and Gold is now six points behind St. Louis CITY who are sitting in first place. LAFC will travel to CITYPARK to face off against St. Louis on Wednseday, September 20.
