LAFC vs Seattle Sounders Highlights
LAFC travelled north to play the Seattle Sounders on Sunday and put forth another uninspired performance, losing 3-1 in their return to regular season action.
It would be easy to chalk the performances up to losing Vela had they not been so good in the MLS is Back Tournament without the reigning MLS MVP. Plus, LAFC’s struggles have come almost exclusively on the defensive end, something that was a strength for them last season.
LAFC came out strong, but an absolute stunner first time off the left foot of Ruidiaz against the run of play in the 11th minute put LAFC on their back foot. The sides battled out the rest of the first half to a stalemate.
The second half opened with the Sounders quickly slicing through the LAFC defense twice consecutively, with Jordan Morris on the finishing end of both goals. The first came in the 48th minute on a through ball that caught Vermeer in no man’s land. The second came immediately upon the restart, with Morris alone at the back past to tap in a cross that saw the entire back line on their heels.
Rossi pulled one back with 30 minutes left to play on a nice ball from Cifuentes, but LAFC were unable to close the gap further and were, in fact, lucky not to concede any more goals.
LAFC head back home licking their wounds and will hope to bounce back on Wednesday against their 2019 punching bag, the San Jose Earthquakes.
