LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes Highlights
LAFC welcomed the San Jose Earthquakes into Banc of California Stadium hoping to get back on track against an opponent they have historically dominated. San Jose held up their end of the bargain, with LAFC netting another five goals against their “rivals” before the Earthquakes snuck one past Vermeer in stoppage time.
Though LAFC dominated the first half, they only managed to score once. Rossi netted the first goal of his brace on the night in the 21st minute. In classic fashion, he found himself inside the box on the left side, bought an inch of space, and curled one into the far post with his right foot.
Things got spicier in the second half, and LAFC found some of the magic that won them the 2019 Supporters Shield.
LAFC got their second goal of the night on a steal by Rossi, who quickly slotted Wright-Phillips in behind the defense with acres of space. The keeper did well to keep out the initial attempt, but BWP slipped in the rebound.
Cifuentes followed that up in the 64th minute, snatching up a deflected shot in the box and hammering into the back post net for LAFC’s third goal. Rossi got his second of the night moments later with a clever near post run and toe poke to slip it past the keeper.
The end of the match saw Danny Musovski smash one in with his left foot after driving into the box in the 83rd minute. LAFC will be disappointed, though, to lose the shutout in stoppage time on a clever flick past Vermeer by Danny Hoesen.
Next on the docket is a rematch with crosstown rivals LA Galaxy on Sunday. LAFC will be looking to avenge their most recent loss to the Galaxy in the first game of the phase one restart.
