LAFC vs Seattle Sounders Highlights
On Friday night, Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini made their home debuts in the LAFC vs Seattle Sounders match at a packed Banc of California Stadium. With a score from both Mahala Opoku and Carlos Vela, the Black and Gold claimed victory in a 2-1 win.
LAFC gave up an early goal to the Sounders as Cristain Roldan, in his hometown, stole a pass and blew past three defenders and shot towards the net only to have Jesús Murillo block the ball for an own goal. Vela almost managed to equalize the match shortly after but the play was called back for a handball violation.
In the 35th minute, Opoku drilled a left-footed shot outside the box for the equalizer and celebrated with the “Wakanda forever” pose. Opoku’s goal was his fifth for the season and he now has either a goal or an assist in three of his past four matches.
Vela carried the momentum through the end of the first half following a cross from LAFC midfielder José Cifuentes and was able to hook one in during the 43’ to bring the lead to 2-1. Vela broke his seven-game scoreless streak and now has seven goals for the 2022 season, along with eight assists. Cifu, who was credited with an assist to Vela, gained his fifth assist of the season and is only one assist under his career high.
The Seattle Sounders have lost five of their six regular season games at Banc of California Stadium while drawing once. Seattle suffered their fourth loss in their last five games, while LAFC extended their winning streak to four with a home game winning streak of five.
The Black and Gold are the first Club in the MLS to achieve 15 wins this season, and now hold a league best of 48 points. They’ll take a trip on the road to Rio Tinto Stadium next Saturday to face off against Real Salt Lake, but will first make a pit stop to play in the Leagues Cup Showcase at SoFi Stadium against Club América on Wednesday, August 3.
