LAFC vs Portland Timbers Highlights
In the third matchup of the season between LAFC vs Portland Timbers, there was absolutely zero chance that the end score would be 2-1 Timbers for the third time…right? History repeated itself once again at Banc of California Stadium and The Timbers finished the match exactly 2-1, sweeping the Los Angeles FC for the season while handing them their third loss in a row.
LAFC forward Michee Ngalina had an opportunity to score in the 25th minute with a pass from Raheem Edwards but side netted. Midfielder Aduard Atuesta also had a chance with a free kick but his shot landed straight to the Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark who read the line.
The first goal came right at the 45’ where Portland’s Yimmi Chara received an assist from teammate Dairon Asprilla and scooped his shot to the far post past LAFC goalkeeper Jamal Blackman, who was just signed by LAFC earlier this month. In the second half, LAFC subbed in Danny “The Moose” Musovski who had a clean look 10 minutes into the second half and evened the match with a slide shot.
Unfortunately just 4 minutes after the tie, Timbers forward Felipe Mora got an open look and shot hard but ricocheted off the right post. All black jerseys looked lost and the ball went straight to Asprilla who caught everyone off guard and lasered in a goal of his own. Asprilla ended the match with a game-high of 17 duels.
With only seven games remaining for the rest of the season, the Black & Gold need to make a good run as they are currently sitting in 9th place, 4 points below the 7th seed Minnesota United FC. LAFC will face the hometown rivals LA Galaxy in an episode of El Tráfico on Sunday, October 3rd at Dignity Health Sports Park.
