LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes Highlights

It was a match to forget as the LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes game ended up in a shutout win for San Jose who came up in a 2-0 victory on Saturday at PayPal Park versus the Black & Gold. The Quakes scored within minutes of the start of each half, setting the tone for what was to come as the two California teams compete for a playoff chase in the Western Conference.

At just 3 minutes into the start of the first half, the San Jose Earthquakes capitalized on a failed interception by LAFC’s Mamadou Fall who tried a head clearance on a Quakes long ball. The ball ended up by the legs of Quakes forward Benji Kikanovic who got an open look at the net and scored as he ran past goalkeeper Tomás Romero who rushed up to defend.

Javier “Chofis” López of the San Jose Quakes started off the second half with a goal of his own in the 47th minute with his left-footed effort finding the back of the net following a centered feed from Marcos López. The López to López connection gave Javier his 11th goal of the season.

The closest opportunity for the Los Angeles Football Club came at 57’ when Cristian Arango caught a midfield long ball and headed it toward Danny Musovski with finesse. Musovski came up short as he kicked the ball at the side net.

The San Jose Earthquakes are now tied with LAFC in points but sit a few spots under in 10th place while the Black & Gold are in 8th place. The Los Angeles Football Club will face the Portland Timbers in their third match of the season next Wednesday night, September 29.
