LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes Highlights

In their first matchup of the season, LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes resulted in an unexpected 2-1 victory for the home team as the Quakes won their first game at PayPal Park since May 1st. The Quakes currently sit in 10th place in the Western Conference.

In an electric play at the 11th minute, Quakes’ midfielder Cristian Espinoza directed his free kick at the near post, which lasered into the goal. At first it looked as if the goal belonged to Espinoza but Quakes’ defender Nathan Cardoso was sitting pretty and made the slightest touch to sink in the first goal of the game.

Espinoza got his second assist of the game in the 28th minute where he found teammate Javier “Chofis” López cut in near the six-yard box. Chofis went for the easy tap-in to increase the lead of the LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes game to 2-0 Quakes.

The Black & Gold finally got on the board toward the end of the first half off a free kick where Carlos Vela beautifully soared a pass intended for a Tristan Blackmon header but resulted in an own goal by Quakes’ midfielder Jackson Yueill.

The second half of the LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes matchup was slower paced as both teams had troubles with their chances on offense. LAFC’s forward Latif Blessing had an opportune shot to tie the game only to be blocked by Quakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski.

LAFC has now lost five matches in a row. Head coach Bob Bradley needs to dig deep to see what is going on. Even though it is on the road, there are no excuses for so many consecutive losses. Next up is the Atlanta United FC on Sunday, August 15 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
