LAFC vs Portland Timbers Highlights

A climactic stoppage time game-winner was the result of the first LAFC vs Portland Timbers match of the season that ended in a 2-1 victory for Portland. The two teams faced each other on Wednesday night at Providence Park.

It was a fast score for the Green & Gold as the Portland Timbers started off strong with a 1-0 lead after Josecarlos Van Rankin lofted a floaty cross toward midfielder Diego Valeri who then nutmegged LAFC goalkeeper Tomás Romero for a goal at the 2 minute mark. Even though we represent the Black & Gold, we have to pay respects when they’re due. That was a nasty one.

This marked Valeri’s 100th goal for his career at The Timbers, making him the all-time leading scorer for the team. The Argentine midfielder is the 14th all-time scorer and 10th all-time assists in Major League Soccer history.

It wasn’t long till Carlos Vela came through 15 minutes later with a left-footed finish to tie the game at the 17th minute. This play came from Diego Rossi with an absolutely flawless cross right after he chased down a longball pass from about 70 yards out. We have seen these two connect time and time again, and it will never get old.

The teams traded looks until the end game stoppage time in what looked to almost become a draw between LAFC and The TImbers. On 92’, Portland midfielder Sebastián Blanco set up a perfect cross to Chilean forward Felipe Mora who came up clutch with a perfect-timed header to the far goal post. What a dramatic game-winner for the Timbers Army.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC are up next as the LAFC will play back at home at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday, July 24.
