LAFC re-signs defender Eddie Segura for the 2024 season
Announced today, LAFC re-signs defender Eddie Segura for the 2024 MLS season along with Club options throughout 2026. The familiar face is beloved by all Black and Gold fans during his first stint with the Club from 2018 to 2022.
“Eddie has been a top-class player and person for LAFC since his arrival in 2018,’” said LAFC Co-President and General Manager John Thorrington as LAFC re-signs defender Eddie Segura. “This contract renewal is deserved recognition of his professionalism and commitment to LAFC, and we are excited to have Eddie continue his career in Black and Gold.”
Having last played for LAFC back on October 20, 2022 against the hometown rivals LA Galaxy in the Western Conference Semifinals, Segura is currently still recovering following two surgeries in the off-season for his right anterior cruciate ligament tear.
The 21-year-old Colombian native first joined LAFC on a six-month loan from Atletico Huila on November 21, 2018, and on July 29, 2019, he committed to a long-term, multi-year contract with LAFC. Segura is now in his sixth season with the Black and Gold, appearing in 100 games with 91 starts, three goals, and five assists.
Prior to joining LAFC, Segura played in every league and postseason match for Atlético Huila, helping them to a fourth-place regular season finish in the 2018 Torneo Apertura. Segura played a total of 80 games for Huila in all competitions, scoring twice in 7,121 minutes. Segura played with Deportivo Pereira in Colombia’s second division for his first four years as a professional.
As LAFC re-signs defender Eddie Segura, the Club’s defense gets a nice bump as they prepare to defend their MLS Cup title from 2022.
