LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps Highlights

The Vancouver Whitecaps defeated LAFC 2-1 at BC Place on Saturday night, with Ryan Gauld scoring the game-winning goal (and his first MLS goal) in the 89th minute with a pass from Ryan Raposo.

This was the Whitecaps first win at BC Place in over 539 days. The win extends their unbeaten streak to eight games and moves the Whitecaps to within three points of the MLS Western Conference playoff spots.

Diego Rossi of LAFC scored the game’s first goal from the penalty spot just before halftime. The Uruguayan was hauled down on the edge of the box, and after a Video Review, referee Alex Chilowicz pointed to the spot, much to the chagrin of the home supporters who thought it was a soft foul. However, LAFC suffered a setback earlier in the first half when Carlos Vela was forced to leave the field due to an apparent injury.

At halftime, Whitecaps head coach Marc Dos Santos called on Gauld in an attempt to shift the direction of the game, and his introduction quickly changed matters for the hosts. Gauld was already posing a threat inside the LAFC box after only two minutes.

In the 60th minute, attacker Brian White tied the game for the Whitecaps, his effort flying in off the crossbar. Gauld pounced on the rebound after it appeared the ball had not crossed the line, but after a video review, the goal was awarded to White for the first strike.

Gauld’s late game heroics, on the other hand, stole the show. The Scot was fed a perfect cross by Raposo as he headed home the game-winner into the top right corner of the net. LAFC’s losing streak has now stretched to seven games.
