LAFC vs Minnesota United FC Highlights – July 15, 2023

The LAFC vs Minnesota United ended in a 1-1 draw as LAFC forward Carlos Vela and MNU midfielder Emanuel Reynoso traded first half goals at Allianz Field on Saturday.

LAFC drew first blood in the 21st minute of the match when Vela juked out MNU goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair for a wide open goal to put the Black and Gold on the board. Vela’s goal was his eighth MLS goal this 2023 season and marked the first time this year where he has scored in back-to-back games.

Reynoso answered back just moments after in the 24th minute on a spectacular triangle play that involved teammates Mikael Marques and Bakaye Dibassy. The two freed enough space and flicked it up and airborne for Reynoso to confuse LAFC goalkeeper John McCarthy for an easy tap-in. The goal was Reynoso’s fourth across seven games played this season for Minnesota United FC.

In the second half, both clubs picked up their defense. MNU had a good look in the 79th minute on a play with both Reynoso and forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane on a 2v1 break. Luckily enough for LAFC, Hlongwane’s shot went wide.

LAFC are now 10-6-7 with 37 points and still hold second place in the Western Conference. They finally get to catch a break after starting out with the busiest schedule in MLS history playing 33 total games between February 15 and July 15. The Black and Gold will be back in action on Sunday, August 20 when they host the Colorado Rapids at BMO Stadium.
