LAFC acquires forward Mario González from Sporting Clube De Braga

Announced today, LAFC acquires forward Mario González from Sporting Clube de Braga of Portugal using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). Upon receiving his P1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC), González will take up a spot on the international roster.

“Mario is an experienced attacker with a proven goalscoring record, which was a priority addition for us this transfer window,” said Co-President and GM John Thorrington as LAFC acquires forward Mario González. “We are excited to welcome Mario and see his qualities help deliver further success to our club and supporters.”

The 27 year old González joins the Los Angeles Football Club playing for SC Braga for the previous two years. The Spanish native played 22 games on loan with OH Leuven of the Belgian Pro League A in 2022–2023, scoring 13 goals and recording one assist. Additionally, he played in 16 games for CD Tenerife of the Spanish Second Division while on loan, scoring 6 goals in 973 minutes. Gonzalez scored 14 goals for Tondela in the Portuguese First Division in 27 games in 2020–2021.

González joined La Liga’s Club Villareal in 2012 and made his senior debut for the team on August 17, 2016 in a UEFA Champions League qualification match against AS Monaco. González spent nine years progressing through the development system at Villareal. In total, he played in six games for Villareal’s first team, including four in La Liga, one in the UEFA Champions League, and one in the Europa League. González played 94 games and scored 16 goals for Villareal B across all competitions from 2015 to 2019.
