LAFC vs Minnesota United – March 16, 2024

Going down 2-0 in the LAFC vs Minnesota United match on Saturday night, the Black and Gold are now 1-2-1 for the 2024 season with four points and sit in 10th place in the Western Conference. The Loons’ Robin Lod secured his second goal of the season while head coach Eric Ramsay debuted with a victory.

The first goal of the game came early in the 16th minute when LAFC’s Jesús Murillo mistakenly transferred the ball with a header toward Lod. Lod then was able to find a clear line for a right footed strike to put his team on the board.

Minnesota United goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair made two saves and recorded a clean sheet. Teammates Emanuel Reynoseo and Franco Fragapane made their season debuts following their injuries.

In the 88th minute, Loons forward Bongi Hlongwane beat LAFC’s Omar Campos on the cut and enabled a 1v1 against LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Hlongwane hammered down the final nail in the coffin to Lloris’ left side, doubling the lead to 2-0.

A honorable shout out to Eduard Atuesta as his start marked his 100th MLS regular season appearance for the Black and Gold. He joins LAFC’s century club which includes Carlos Vela (152), Latif Blessing (145), Diego Rossi (104), Diego Palacios (102), and Jose Cifuentes (102).

The loss to Minnesota United FC was LAFC’s first since 2019. Now with the elephant in the room, Denis Bouanga still has not scored this season. Fingers crossed as the club returns to BMO Stadium next week. LAFC will host Nashville SC on Saturday, March 23.
