LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC Highlights
In LAFC’s last home game of the season at Banc of California Stadium, the LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC match ended in a 1-1 draw. Both teams had the opportunity to clinch the Audi MLS Cup Playoff on Tuesday evening but they now have to settle and wait on the last matchday of the 2021 season for their last opportunity to stand above the Western Conference line.
Early on in the match, Whitecaps’ Cristian Dájome zoned in to score at the 14 minute mark for his 10th goal of the season and gave Vancouver their lead. LAFC’s defense was broken on the play which gave Dájome the easy strike.
Just before halftime, LAFC’s Mamadou Fall equalized the match on a play off a corner kick. Initially, Fall was called offside but referee Alex Chilowicz was able to overturn the call after Video Review which tied up the game 1-1. All throughout the night, Whitecaps goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau was stunning making a total of 10 saves. He let this goal slide, thankfully.
Carlos Vela finally came off the bench and got some light after being away for 11 matches nursing his right quad. Ironically the injury occurred the last time these two teams faced off. Good decision by Bob Bradley here for the home crowd to get their chance to see the 2019 MLS MVP.
The Black & Gold missed a number of close calls near the net as Chilowicz’ was on point the whole match. Near the end of the match in stoppage time, José Cifuentes received the ball after a drive and crossed it high toward Vela. Unfortunately the ball flew right past Vela’s head in what would have been a dagger goal if Vela made any sort of contact with the ball.
The result of this match gave the Portland Timbers a playoff berth while LAFC will have to look forward to Decision Day in order to clinch. The Los Angeles FC will play their last match of the season on Sunday, November 7 against the Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
