LAFC signs defender Diego Rosales to homegrown contract
Announced today, LAFC signs defender Diego Rosales to a homegrown contract throughout 2023 along with club options until 2026.
The South Gate, Los Angeles native played in LAFC’s inaugural U-12 academy team for the 2016-2017 season. Rosales joined LAFC’s affiliate USL Championship side Las Vegas Light FC in 202 under an academy contract and played in four games under LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo. In 2023, the 17-year-old defender played and started across 10 matches for LAFC 2 in MLS Next Pro.
Rosales previously signed short-term contracts to join the LAFC first squad this year. On May 10 he won a penalty shootout against Monterey Bay in the fourth round of the 2023 U.S. Open Cup, marking his senior debut in an official match. Rosales had two first team appearances overall in the U.S. Open Cup, and was available for selection for two MLS regular season games on May 18 and May 21.
