LAFC vs Leon Highlights – CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 – First Leg

LAFC officially kicked off their competitive slate for 2020 with a trip to Mexico to face Leon in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16.

They got off to a rough start.

Jean Meneses got Leon off to a strong start in the 21st minute, slicing into the box from the left wing, feinting a far post shot only to slot it near post with new LAFC signing Kenneth Vermeer blinded by defenders.

LAFC battled the home side admirably but created precious few chances throughout.

Leon pushed late to secure a second goal and victory that they could take with them into the second leg on American soil. They squandered a number of chances before capitalizing on a mistake from El-Munir, freeing up Angel Mena for a goal in the 89th minute.

While the final scoreline would seem to indicate the visitors were outclassed, it’s easy to point to atypical errors that led directly to both of Leon’s goals in an extremely hostile atmosphere.

LAFC welcome the Mexican club into Banc of California Stadium on February 27th hoping to overcome the two goal deficit without allowing any away goals.
