LAFC vs Houston Dynamo – June 14, 2023
In another scoreless effort by the Black and Gold, the LAFC vs Houston Dynamo match on Wednesday resulted in a 0-1 loss. After scoring in every contest since the FC Dallas matchup on March 25, LAFC have now remained scoreless dating back to the Concacaf Champions League Final on June 4. This nightmare needs to end.
Allowing Houston another shutout in back-to-back games, LAFC gave the Orange Crush their first victory on the road this season. On the other end, this was LAFC’s first loss at home in 2023.
“Everybody knows we are not in our best moment,” said Carlos Vela. “But there are two ways we can go. Go home and cry, or come back tomorrow and work harder to get it back. We have to trust in us. It’s the only way.
Following a penalty on LAFC’s Stipe Biuk, who shoved and tripped up Houston’s Griffin Dorsey, Hector Herrera’s free kick allowed his team to get on the board. Erik Sviatchenko was on the receiving end but didn’t budge as LAFC goalkeeper John McCarthy dove for the save. At the right place at the right time, Dynamo defender Micael dos Santos Silva controlled the rebound for the easy score over McCarthy. This was Micael’s first goal of his MLS career.
The dry spell for the Black and Gold marks a franchise first as it’s the first time the club has gone scoreless over three straight games.
“All we can do is keep working on the things we always work on,” said LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo. “We’re not changing the way we train, we’re not changing the way we play. We will continue down the same path that we’ve been going down, and I assure you LAFC will start winning games again.”
LAFC will travel to Children’s Mercy Park to play Sporting Kansas City this Saturday, June 17.
