LAFC signs goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic to a one year deal

Announced today, LAFC signs goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic from the Everton F.C. of the English Premier League to a one year deal that includes a club option for 2024. As soon as LAFC receives Jakupovic’s P1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate, he will be added to the roster.

The 38-year-old Jakupovic joins LAFC after having spent ten seasons in England. Prior to the move to the Black and Gold, Jakupovic joined Everton on September 13, 2022.

“It became apparent from our first conversation that Eldin will be a great asset to what is already a strong group of goalkeepers at LAFC.” said Co-president and GM John Thorrington as LAFC signs goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic. “He is a goalkeeper with vast experience and tremendous leadership qualities, and we are excited to have him, his wife, and family as part of the club. I would also like to thank his representative Haydn Dodge for his help throughout.”

Jakupovic played for Leicester City (2017–2022), participating in 19 games across all competitions and taking home the FA Cup in 2021. On July 9, 2012, Jakupovic made his maiden trip to England with Hull City, making five appearances in the English Championship during his rookie year. Eldin played 13 times for English League One team Leyton Orient during the 2013–14 season. Between 2012 and 2017, Eldin played in 54 games for Hull City, including 26 starts in the English Premier League.

As LAFC signs goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, he joins teammates Maxime Crepeau and John McCarthy in protecting the net. Crepeau currently heals from a broken leg and will miss a significant amount of time in the 2023 season, while McCarthy has mostly been a backup in his time in the league.
