LAFC vs Inter Miami CF Highlights
LAFC welcomed Inter Miami CF (insert obligatory David Beckham mention here) to Banc of California Stadium Sunday to kick off the 2020 MLS season. It was a solid introduction to the MLS for Miami.
Unfortunately for them, they were also introduced to 2019 MVP and Golden Boot winner Carlos Vela.
LAFC looked a little sluggish for most of the afternoon, with most of the starters on less than two days rest after a tough battle against Leon in the Champions League.
Rossi actually looked the livelier LAFC star throughout the match, and keeper Kenneth Vermeer was put to the test early and often as his defense seemed a step slow.
But when LAFC needed a moment of magic to get over the hump, Carlos Vela came through in the clutch.
Streaking from his trademark right flank, with defenders bouncing off of him the whole way, Vela found himself at the top of the box with Robles just a little too far off his line. Vela chipped a blooper that somehow didn’t make contact with Robles or the crossbar. Nothing but net, as they say.
LAFC held onto the one goal lead through the second half, squandering a number of other great opportunities. It wasn’t quite the LAFC of last season but no one can complain with a win to start the new campaign.
LAFC will be hoping to put together a stronger performance in a week’s time against the Philadelphia Union.
