LAFC vs Sporting Kansas City Highlights

New life was brought into Banc of California Stadium on Friday night when LAFC claimed their first victory in nine games as they defeated Sporting Kansas City 4-0 in a Western Conference battle thanks to a brace from rookie center Mamadou Fall.

In the first half Sporting KC had possession of the ball for 60 percent of the time played but wasn’t able to generate much of an offense as the lone goal was scored in the 18th minute as Eduard Atuesta caught Fall on a corner kick for a header goal. Later on in the 29th minute, Bryce Duke almost scored from right outside the penalty box.

Sporting KC tried to get things going as Alan Pulido started the second half with the team’s lone shot on goal. At 55 minutes, a foul occurred with Video Review proving that Eduard Atuesta stepped on Cristian Arango’s ankle along with grabbing his jersey, costing him a red card. 6 minutes later Fall secured his brace with another header from a free kick by Atuesta.

The third LAFC goal was scored by Arango from a pass from Danny Musovski as he put it away right before the 71 minute mark. Then out of nowhere it looked like Sporting KC finally got their first goal but it was called back and ruled offside after review. The final dagger came at 87’ when Atuesta made a penalty kick due to veteran goalkeeper Tim Melia’s yellow card from a 1v1 play right beforehand with Musovski.

With the solid win without Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi, the Black & Gold are now in 8th place with a record of 7W-9D-6L with a total of 27 points. The next matchup for the Los Angeles Football Club will be played on Sunday, September 12 against Real Salt Lake.
