Finishing strong, LAFC vs New York Red Bulls preseason match ends in 6-1 blowout victory
To begin the LAFC vs New York Red Bulls preseason match, Coach Cherundulo stuck with his guns using a similar starting lineup as the one used against DC United. Just minutes into the match at Empire Polo Club in Indio, the Red Bulls were first to score following a penalty. Soon afterward, the Black & Gold tallied up six answered goals and won the match 6-1.
LAFC defender Franco Escobar fouled New York’s Omir Fernandez in the penalty area early on the 9th minute, then Patryk Klimaka shot the penalty kick for the 1-0 NY lead. About 20 minutes later, LAFC’s Brian Rodriquez equalized the match after a shot in the far post zipping through Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. A moment later, Mahala Opoku crossed toward the penalty area where the Red Bull defenders struggled, resulting in an own goal for New York.
At the 34th minute, Rodriquez added his second goal of the LAFC vs New York Red Bulls preseason match which gave them a 3-1 going into halftime. Rodriquez had a heck of a game during the second half as well, setting up an easy tap-in shot for Carlos Vela at the 46’. Vela continued the trend, corner kicking into the box during the 58’ where Mamadou Fall connected on a header to bring up the lead to 5-1.
The bleeding wouldn’t stop there, as just a couple minutes following their fifth goal, Diego Palacios found the wide open Opuku on a cross to score LAFC’s sixth goal of the game. Save some of the season guys…
