LAFC transfers forward Brian Rodríguez to Club América

Announced today, LAFC transfers forward Brian Rodríguez to Club América in Liga MA, the professional football division in Mexico.

“Brian has been an important contributor to our success since his arrival in 2019,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington as LAFC transfers forward Brian Rodríguez. “He is an exciting player who is capable of special things, which we witnessed many times. We wish him all the best in this opportunity with Club América.”

On August 7, 2019, Rodríguez went from Club Atlético Peñarol of Uruguay’s Primera Division to LAFC as a Young Designated Player. The forward played for LAFC in 55 regular-season MLS games with 46 starts and tallied 12 assists in addition to eight goals during the course of his MLS career.

Rodriguez said he would be open to moving to Club America in an interview with TUDN earlier this month, saying that it “would be a great leap.” After being excluded from Uruguay’s national team for the 2022 World Cup qualifications and friendlies, the winger will try to reclaim his position.

Diego Alonso, the manager of the Uruguay national team, has previously coached Inter Miami in the MLS and Pachuca and Monterrey in Liga MX. Rodriguez will play for Club América alongside Uruguayans Federico Vinas, Jonathan Rodriguez, and Sebastian Caceres.

As LAFC transfers forward Brian Rodríguez, we will remember his aid as part of the Black and Gold, participating in two playoff games in 2019 and helping LAFC win the Supporter’s Shield. Additionally, he played in four games as LAFC advanced to the Concacaf Champions League finals in 2020.
