LAFC re-signs defender Ryan Hollingshead  to a three year contract

Announced today, LAFC re-signs defender Ryan Hollingshead, 31, to a three year contract. There’s no way he’d leave after winning the MLS Cup!

The California native was acquired by LAFC in a trade with FC Dallas on February 10 ahead of the 2022 regular season. He soon established himself as a key member of the team, matching his previous career best of six goals while contributing one assist over 30 regular season games.

“We are incredibly excited to come to terms with Ryan on an extension as he played a critical role in our 2022 championship campaign,” said LAFC Co-President and GM John Thorrington as LAFC re-signs defender Ryan Hollingshead. “He is among the top fullbacks in the league, and we are confident he will contribute to further success at LAFC. We are proud to have Ryan, his wife Taylor, and their children as part of the LAFC family. I also want to thank his representative, Shaun Higgins, for his professionalism throughout the process.”

For the 2022 MLS season, Hollingshead tied with Juan Jose Sanchez from the Atlanta United FC for most goals by a defender. As LAFC re-signs defender Ryan Hollingshead, he is currently ranked second across all defenders in the MLS since 2010 while recording 24 goals over the course of 223 games.

The former UCLA star started in all three of the 2022 Playoff matches for LAFC, notching one assist and helping the LA Club win the 2022 MLS Cup and their second Supporters’ Shield in the young franchise’s history.

Hollingshead was crowned the MLS Works Humanitarian of the Year in 2017 and has participated in a total of 223 regular season games in his career, while making 171 starts and tallying 15,373 regular season minutes.
