LAFC loans defender Mamadou Fall to Villarreal CF
Announced today, LAFC loans defender Mamadou Fall to Spanish professional football division La Liga’s Villarreal CF. The loan begins right away and lasts until June 2023. Fall may still be recalled by LAFC.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Mamadou, and one that we felt was right at this stage of his career,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington as LAFC loans defender Mamadou Fall. “He is an incredible prospect with great potential who now has the chance to develop further at a top European club. We will be monitoring his progress closely and wish him all the best with Villareal.”
Over the course of two seasons, Fall started 29 of the 35 regular-season games for LAFC and contributed five goals. Fall played in 16 regular season games this year, including 13 starts. On March 6 at Banc of California Stadium, he tied the game against Portland with his lone goal in stoppage time.
In 2021, the Senegal native transferred from Orlando, Florida’s Soccer Institute of Montverde Academy to LAFC at the age of 18. That year, Fall played in eight matches with 634 minutes on field while on loan with the Las Vegas Lights, LAFC’s USL affiliate club. Now 19, Fall is regarded as one of Major League Soccer’s best prospects, although he has recently fallen down the LAFC depth chart.
Since the end of the June international break, Fall has only started one league game. As LAFC loans defender Mamadou Fall, we wish him the best on his new journey.
On September 1st, the La Liga summer transfer window will close.
