$400,000 in 2023 GAM acquired as LAFC exchanges midfielder Latif Blessing
In a trade with the New England Revolution, LAFC exchanges midfielder Latif Blessing for $400,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). If specific conditions are met, LAFC would be able to get another $300,000 in GAM.
“This was a very difficult decision for us,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington as LAFC exchanges midfielder Latif Blessing. “Latif Blessing is a player who will always be remembered as an LAFC original and someone who helped build this Club both on the field and off. His connection with our fans and community is unmatched. Latif approached the Club requesting a trade, and we are happy that we were able to find a solution that helps Latif in several ways, including with a personal family situation. This is not easy, and we want to thank Latif for all of his contributions to LAFC.”
Making moves following a championship season is never easy. Blessing was one of the first players to ever don the Black and Gold, following his acquisition from Sporting Kansas City in the 2018 MLS Expansion Draft. He departs the LAFC as the franchise’s all-time leader in games played with 145 and minutes with 9,749. Blessing ranks fifth in goals (14) and second in both assists (23) and shots (146).
The 26-year-old Ghana-born player started in 16 of the 30 games played in for LAFC and recorded four assists. He participated in all 34 regular season games as LAFC won the Supporters Shield in 2019, having a stellar year while setting career highs. Blessing flourished while playing under the guidance of former U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley, who helped him transition from a winger to a center midfielder.
As LAFC exchanges midfielder Latif Blessing, we have lost a fan favorite, but truly wish him the best on his next journey. Thank you Latif for your commitment and candor!
