LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC Highlights

The Black and Gold were back on the road for the LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC match at BC Place. Leading the Western Conference, LAFC’s trip to Vancouver Whitecaps without Carlos Vela came out unsuccessful in a 1-0 loss.

Maxime Crépeau played against his former team for the second time this season and finished the match with 1 goal saved and 1 conceded. Unfortunately, that single goal was the difference maker, and it occurred toward the end of the match in the 81st minute when Whitecaps midfielder Andrés Cubas blocked a pass from LAFC’s Ilie Sánchez. Cubas then scurried for some spacing and was able to strike past Crépeau for the 1-0 lead.

A +4 stoppage wasn’t enough time for the Black and Gold to recover. Throughout the match, both teams had decent opportunities to score but overall it was a well defended game. Hats off to the Whitecaps on this one for being the aggressor in the second half.

“What seemed to be an uneventful evening—not a whole lot of chances in the first half and most of the second half. I think both were a bit cautious and we were also a bit fatigued,” said Coach Steve Cherundolo. “These games are often decided by very few mistakes and we made a mistake and they capitalized on that.”

Can’t win them all. This loss ended the four game lossless streak by LAFC. We have to give credit to LAFC for playing on short rest. They’ve got another episode of El Tráfico upcoming next Friday at Banc of California Stadium. Fingers crossed.
