Although The Village struck first blood in the LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC matchup, the Los Angeles FC were able to keep their composure and come out victorious thanks to a brace by Ryan Hollingshead and a goal by Carlos Vela. LAFC have stayed undefeated are now 3-0-1 with 10 points for the season.

Whitecaps’ Tristan Blackmon scored in the 12th minute against his former team giving Vancouver a 1-0 lead. That was all she wrote for the Blue & White as LAFC held them scoreless for the rest of the match. At the 27’ and off a corner kick from Vela, Hollingshead was able to even the match 1-1 on a header past Whitecaps goalkeeper Thomas Hasal.

LAFC stayed full throttle throughout the game. Vela added a goal during the 38’ as he scored from the near post off a cross from forward Kwadwo Opoku. Vela now has four goals for the season and is tied for the league lead.

For his first career brace in his nine seasons in the MLS, Hollingshead scored once more in the 70th minute with a clean straight-lined strike from top of the box through a number of Whitecaps defenders. The 3-1 lead for LAFC resulted in enough cushion to end the game in victory. The Whitecaps now have a 0-4-2 record against the Black & Gold, and even worse, have been winless in their last seven games dating back to the 2021 season.

LAFC are sitting pretty in first place in the MLS Western Conference and will be facing off against Orlando City SC on Saturday, April 2.
