LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC – November 8, 2024

Advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals for the third year in a row, the Black and Gold’s victory in the LAFC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC match on Friday puts the club one step closer to reaching the MLS Cup. Mateusz Bogusz led his team to victory with his lone goal of the game.

A defensive, scoreless first half raised the stakes for the finishing 45 minutes of the match. Although both Timothy Tillman and Denis Bouanga had opportunities to find the back of the net, it was Bogusz that scored in what turned out to be his very first playoff goal of his MLS career.

Cutting off a long cross with a clean defensive header near midfield, Aaron Long put the ball in LAFC’s possession in the 62nd minute of the match. Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andres Cubas did his best to retake the ball but ended up ricocheting it to Bogusz who went pedal to the metal through two defenders and took a left footed strike that went past goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka and into the back of the net.

With a roaring BMO Stadium, the LAFC were up 1-0 and only allowed Vancouver to attempt two shots at goal in the final 30 minutes of the match. Whitecaps defender Tristan Blackmon did make a header in the 74th minute but got called offside on the play.

For the third straight season, LAFC has advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals. They are the only MLS team to have advanced to this postseason round in each of the previous three years. A lot of kudos to Hugo Lloris who recorded a clean sheet with two crucial saves throughout the game.
