LAFC vs St Louis CITY SC – May 15, 2024
Claiming their first road victory of the 2024 MLS season, the LAFC vs St Louis CITY SC matchup on Wednesday went in the way of the Black and Gold as the L.A. squad won 2-0 at CITYPARK. After an incredible assisting performance by Bouanga this past Saturday against the Vancouver Whitecaps, the winger showed why he was last season’s Golden Boot winner as he scored two goals in the second half.
St. Louis looked to take an early lead with a penalty kick in the 16th minute due to a handball call on LAFC’s Omar Campos. After his clean sheet last weekend, LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris didn’t miss a beat and made an incredible block on CITY SC’s striker João Klauss.
The game was kept as a draw going into the halftime break, but it wasn’t long till Bouanga put his team on the board in the 58th minute following a perfect overhead lob by Mateusz Bogusz. Bouanga drilled one through CITY SC goalkeeper Roman Bürki for his 10th game winning goal in club history. The only other LAFC player to have 10 game winners is none other than the hyena himself, Carlos Vela.
15 minutes later, Anthony Markanich of CITY SC was given his second yellow card of the match, which lowered the home team to 10 on the field. Bouanga took full advantage of this and secured his brace in the second half stoppage when he broke away past St. Louis’ Christopher Durkin for a successful 1v1 opportunity against Bürki.
With the win, LAFC ended a five-game losing streak on the road and are currently sitting in third place in the Western Conference. The club will play their U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match against Loudoun United next Tuesday, May 21.
