LAFC vs Sporting Kansas City Highlights

The Saturday night matchup between LAFC vs Sporting Kansas City resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Black and Gold and marked their third win in a row. Chicho Arango and Gareth Bale secured a goal each to help LAFC retain their lead in MLS standings.

Throughout a scoreless first half, both teams missed out on scoring opportunities while falling short on their strikes. LAFC’s José Cifuentes had a great look in the 45th minute following a pass from Kwadwo Opoku but Sporting Kansas City’s defender Logan Ndenbe was at the right place at the right time blocking the shot to play failsafe for his goalkeeper Tim Melia.

LAFC came out with guns blazing in the second half of the match with Chicho shooting a cannon in the 56th minute to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead. Chicho now has a goal in each of his previous three games and leads his club with 9 regular season goals.

Gareth Bale entered the game in the 65’ and scored his very first MLS goal just 18 minutes later in the 83’. In only his second match for LAFC, the former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur star was able to sneak a left-footed strike through Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper John Pulskamp, who replaced Melia earlier in the second half.

Maxime Crépeau also deserves a whole lot of credit for this match and especially for earning his sixth clean sheet this season. Crépeau finished the night with three saves.

Sebastián Méndez, the newest addition to LAFC, went on field in the 86th minute to make his debut.

LAFC are now 14-4-4 overall with a road record of 6-3-1. They will face the Seattle Sounders on Friday, July 20 at Banc of California Stadium.
