LAFC vs Sporting Kansas City – October 5, 2024

The Black and Gold have now won four games in a row following their LAFC vs Sporting Kansas City 3-0 dub at Children’s Mercy Park. The win kept LAFC’s standings in second place of the Western Conference as the team clinched home field advantage in their Round One Best-of-3 Series for the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.

David Martinez was in the spotlight once again as he scored in the 14th minute when rebounding Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Tim Melia following a penalty kick by Denis Bouanga. The goal marked Martinez’s second for the Black and Gold. Before the first half ended, Cristian Olivera doubled the lead during stoppage time after receiving a pass from Bouanga. This was Olivera’s sixth regular season goal of the 2024 season.

With a two-goal advantage going into the second half of the game, LAFC defender Aaron Long put the final nail in the coffin in the 69th minute when he curved in a right-footed strike from the top of the box for his first ever goal as part of the Black and Gold. Long’s goal also marked his first MLS goal since August 2022.

The victory also marked head coach Steve Cherundolo’s 100th MLS regular season game as the LAFC head coach. LAFC has 52 wins under his belt and is the second-best total in LAFC’s history.

Now 17-8-7 with 58 points, LAFC will travel north to Vancouver to face off against the Whitecaps on Sunday, October 13.
