LAFC vs Seattle Sounders – July 20, 2024
In what was the final MLS match before the All-Star game, the LAFC vs Seattle Sounders Saturday night bout was a great display of how LAFC remain one of the favorite clubs to win the Supporters Shield in 2024. With a brace by Denis Bouanga and a score by the one and only Mateusz Bogusz, LAFC bounced back on short rest with a 3-0 victory following a draw earlier this week against Real Salt Lake.
A video review early on in the game showed that a hand ball violation was called on Nouhou Tolo, which resulted in a penalty kick for Bouanga. Going 1v1 against Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei, Bouanga pulled up toward the ball for a right-footed strike over Frei for the first goal of the game.
Bogusz amazingly scored on a volley to double the lead in the 26th minute after teammate Eduard Atuesta kicked a cross into the penalty area. The ball floated right into Bogusz’s line as he took a right footer through Frei. Bogusz now has 13 goals this MLS season with 15 goal contributions across the past 13 games.
Bouanga secured his brace in the 74th minute of the match after receiving a pass from Kei Kamara. The 2023 Golden Boot Winner broke three Seattle Sounders defenders and lasered another goal through Frei to put LAFC up 3-0 with the clock ticking. Since joining LAFC late in the 2022 season, Bouanga is currently 7-for-7 this season and 10-for-10 in the regular season from the penalty spot.
Together, Bouanga and Bogusz have a combined 29 goals for LAFC this season. That’s more than half of the total 48 goals! On the defensive end, LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris recorded four saves in this game and has recorded 10 saves against the Sounders this season with only one goal conceded.
In a matchup with Liga MX’s Club Tijuana, LAFC will play in the Leagues Cup opener on Friday, July 26.
