Opoku’s equalizer gave him his career-high seventh goal this 2022 season.

Taking back the lead, Quakes forward Cade Cowell shot a bullet toward the back of the net in the 77’ following another possession led by the combination of Espinoza and Thompson. The two finished the LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes match with two assists each.

Cristian Arango had an opportunity to even the match in the fifth minute of the stoppage time but his shot went wide to the left. The Quakes held onto their lead to finish the night with a W, sitting in 12th place in the Western Conference.

With the 2-1 setback in San Jose, LAFC tied their own 2019 MLS record for the fewest games played prior to securing a spot in the 2022 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with 25 games. LAFC became the first team this MLS season to qualify for playoffs. The club will travel to Q2 Stadium on Friday, August 26 to kick off against Austin FC.
