LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes Highlights
With only a two-day break, the Black and Gold were back in action on Saturday for the LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes match at home at Banc of California Stadium. Bouncing back in a 3-2 victory, LAFC are now 9-3-2 for the 2022 MLS season with a league leading 29 points.
LAFC scored the first goal of the match and took the lead early on right at the start of the 8th minute with a penalty kick. Cristian “Chicho” Arango was able to strike with a slight hesi to the left side of San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski.
Just five minutes following their first goal, LAFC took possession and distributed a number of touch passes that led to Ryan Hollingshead scoring on a low left-footed shot to the near post. We couldn’t have asked for a better start by the Black and Gold.
The Quakes made a run of their own starting with midfielder Jamiro Monteiro. After stealing the ball and passing it back and forth to forward Jeremy Ebobisse, Ebobisse eventually committed the shot to the back of the net to cut the lead in half. The Quakes were able to equalize the match in the 31st minute after a corner kick to Ebobisse for the brace. Quite the hiccup there for LAFC for the bad defensive play.
LAFC were able to secure the lead right when the second half started thanks to midfielder Brian Rodríguez with a left-footed tap in to bring the score up 3-2. This was Rodríguez’s second goal of the season and his first since the April 2nd matchup against Orlando City. The midfielder now has 8 goals and 11 assists over 50 games played since he joined the club in 2019.
For the rest of the match, both teams upheld each other from scoring and through the +4 minutes of stoppage time. With the international break coming up, LAFC won’t play until Saturday, June 18 against the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.
