LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes Highlights – October 19, 2024
Earning the number one seed in the Western Conference standings, the LAFC vs San Jose Earthquakes victory on Saturday night completed LAFC’s 2024 MLS season with the exact same record as their hometown rivals, the LA Galaxy. Although both clubs finished with a 19-8-7 record, it was the Black and Gold who won the tiebreaker with the 3-1 win.
The San Jose Earthquakes drew first blood in the 9th minute of the match when Jackson Yueill got his first goal of the season on a transition play while rushing into the box and knocking one past LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. LAFC was then held scoreless in the first half without even a shot on goal, but immediately answered back in the second.
The one and only Denis Bouanga scored in the 64th minute, marking his 20th goal of the season. Bouanga is now the fourth player in MLS history to have scored 20 or more goals across consecutive seasons. The 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner tied the legendary Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez for the second most goals in the league this season.
Eduard Atuesta gave LAFC the lead just eleven minutes later with a right-footed strike through San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Daniel. He would then also add an assist to his bill when he found Marlon Santos da Silva Barbosa on a long cross that connected on a beautiful header by the Brazilian, putting LAFC up 3-1. Marlon’s score was also his first ever goal for the Black and Gold.
On the defensive end, Lloris finished the game with four saves, which puts the vet with the second most saves in a single season in LAFC history with 97.
LAFC will host the winner of the Vancouver Whitecaps vs Portland Timbers Western Conference Wild Card matchup.
