LAFC vs Real Salt Lake Highlights

A 4-1 victory in the LAFC vs Real Salt Lake match helped the Black and Gold maintain their six game win streak along with their lead in the MLS rankings with a 16-4-3 record and 51 points. As we follow the road to the Supporter’s Shield, the light down the tunnel grows brighter each week.

At Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, LAFC struck first blood early on in the 9th minute when Cristian Arango succeeded on a back heel kick through RSL’s Zac MacMath to take the lead. The goal was Chicho’s 10th for the season. RSL forward Sergio Córdova answered back quickly just four minutes later with a shot past Maxime Crépeau for the equalizer.

The energy kept flowing as LAFC retook the lead thanks to a left-footed strike by Kellyn Acosta in the 17th. Chicho was close to scoring again before the half on a chip shot but MacMath was able to backpedal for the save.

RSL almost scored in the first five minutes of the second half off of a corner kick but José Cifuentes was at the right place at the right time to clear the ball after a scuffle. In the 60th minute, LAFC forward Kwadwo Opoku found Chicho with a left cross to give him his first brace this MLS season.

Gareth Bale came off the bench and had a decent look in the box in the 76’, though MacMath blocked the high strike. Bale wasn’t done yet. Just ten minutes following his missed attempt, he dashed past RSL defender Justen Glad and struck his second goal in the MLS and the final nail for the night.

LAFC has now increased their lead in the Western Conference playoff run to six points, and the upcoming Saturday home game on August 13 against Charlotte FC is well in their favor.
