LAFC vs Portland Timbers Highlights – U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals
LAFC finally lost a game at home. Especially unfortunate is that it happened in a single elimination tournament.
The Portland Timbers came to Los Angeles for the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and improbably blanked the League’s hottest offense while peppering Pablo Sisniega repeatedly throughout the night.
Larrys Mabiala took consecutive cracks at the LAFC goal inside the box on successive corners but Sisniega held firm. Shortly after, Marvin Loria made a brilliant run on the counter to get himself one on one but Sisniega was again up to the task.
Despite having virtually no attack, LAFC held firm defensively for most of the night, including a brilliant sliding tackle by Jordan Harvey to keep the ball out of the net.
But the visitors finally broke through in the 84th minute when Ebobisse found himself alone inside the six and snuck a chip over Sisniega’s shoulder. That was enough to seal the win for the Timbers, who move on to the semifinals.
LAFC return to league play in less than 48 hours with a trip to Houston to face Dynamo.
