LAFC vs Portland Timbers Highlights

In a nail-biting stoppage time 1-1 draw, the Black & Gold were able to clutch out a score toward the end of the LAFC vs Portland Timbers match thanks to Mamadou Fall. Portland’s Yimmi Chara made his second bicycle kick goal in two games while Carlos Vela had to be substituted in the second half due to an injury precaution.

Week 1’s Player of the Week Carlos Vela had a couple of opportunities to score with one during the 33rd minute where he struck from the right flank. Unfortunately Timbers goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic was able to make the save. Minutes later Vela took a free kick but missed right under the crossbar. LAFC had to sub Vela, Diego Palacios, and Franco Escobar on Sunday night due to injuries.

For most of the match, LAFC were down at home at Banc of California Stadium as Portland protected their 1-0 lead for a straight 75 minutes following another bicycle kick by the Columbian winger. The momentum shifted during the second half where Timbers defender Caludio Bravo arm checked Arango for his second yellow card of the game that resulted in a red card ejection.

The Portland Timbers were left with a man short and ended up receiving a total of seven yellow cards throughout the match, even Timbers head coach Gio Svarese got one drawn in the second half. Unable to retain the lead and take all three points, Portland let up a tap-in score for Fall in the 93rd minute off a sneaky assist from Brian Rodriguez.

Hopefully Vela is okay, we’ll be checking on his status through the week. Next up, LAFC will match up against Inter Miami CF on Saturday, March 12 at DRV PNK Stadium.
