LAFC vs Philadelphia Union – April 26, 2023

Wow, the first leg of the LAFC vs Philadelphia Union Concacaf Champions League semifinal series was a nail biter. Causing hearts of all Black and Gold fans to race, Kellyn Acosta came up in the clutch to score a goal and tie the match during the second half stoppage.

For the majority of the game, both clubs went scoreless up until the 86th minute when Union midfielder Dániel Gazdag scored a penalty kick through LAFC goalkeeper John McCarthy after a VAR review that proved that Acosta blocked Jack McGlynn’s shot with his hand. True Black and Gold fans weren’t giving up hope just yet, especially after what had happened at last year’s MLS Cup championship game against the same exact team.

The clock was ticking down, and stoppage time began as LAFC trailed 0-1. Redeeming himself for the hand block, Acosta made an acrobatic play and succeeded in equalizing the match with a shot to the right corner past Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake. Big kudos to Timothy Tillman with the perfect cross and assist on that magnificent play.
