Continuing their amazing streak in the LAFC vs Orlando City SC matchup, the Black and Gold have now come out victorious across eight straight games in all competitions with the 3-1 win on Saturday night. Denis Bouanga secured a brace while Mateusz Bogusz scored his seventh goal of the 2024 MLS season.
It really is a case of déjà vu as this pair of Black of Gold jerseys have come out clutch week after week. Right before the half, Bouanga got tripped up inside the box and was allowed a penalty kick, which resulted in his 11th goal of this season. Orlando City SC was able to tie the game following the break when Luis Muriel received a perfect over-the-head lob pass and shot right through LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Then it was Bogusz’ turn to shine, as the Polish footballer blew past multiple purple jerseys and lasered a right-footed shot past Orlando City SC goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar to give LAFC a 2-1 lead. Now, Bogusz has had either a goal or an assist across LAFC’s six-game MLS winning streak with three each.
To put the cherry on top, Bouanga added another goal in the 86th minute of the match when he snaked through three Orlando defenders including Stajduhar who got absolutely juked out of his mind, leaving an open goal for the 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner. DB now ties Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez with 12 goals for the season.
Although LAFC did lose their 549-minute club record for keeping their opponents scoreless, it’s safe to say there’s nothing stopping the Black and Gold as they remain the hottest club in the MLS. Fingers crossed as they face their NorCal rivals in the San Jose Earthquakes next week on Saturday, June 22.
