LAFC vs LA Galaxy Highlights

The big names showed up in the first episode of El Tráfico between LAFC vs LA Galaxy. In what ended in a 2-1 win for the Galaxy, the matchup between the Los Angeles hometown rivals at Dignity Health Sports Park was a solid competition to the last minute.

The first half went to the Galaxy as Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez showed up to help his team in the 11th minute. The MLS goal leader as of now, Chicharito caught the ball off Galaxy’s Derrick Williams’ tackle on LAFC’s José Cifuentes, then shot the ball toward the far right post for a goal.

LAFC had some decent opportunities in the rest of the first but could not finish as Galaxy’s goalkeeper Johnathan Bond made saves after saves. In the 32nd minute, Diego Rossi and Latif Blessing of the Black & Gold both shot toward the goal within seconds only to have Bond block both attempts for a double save. There is a reason why Bond stands as the current league leader of saves.

In the second half, Rossi was able to regain his composure and show Dignity Health Sports Park why he was last season’s leading scorer in the MLS. With the help of both Blessing and Corey Baird on top of the box, Rossi found an opportunity from a pass to score on Bond to tie the game up 1-1.

Toward the end of the match at the 79’, La Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos made his first goal of the season and in over a year since October 2019. Chicarito had a great setup for Dos Santos after a cross from Cameron Dunbar. Then it was easy for JDS to pick his spot for a quick shot into the back of the net.

Although the Black & Gold could not come off with a win, it was still great to feel this kind of energy from fans of both sides in the city of Los Angeles. Up next are the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, May 16 at Lumen Field.
